Historically, well over a million Belarusians relocated to these nearby states due to shared history, geographic proximity, and the widespread use of the Russian language. These familiar destinations offer seamless transitions for career opportunities and family reunification without the hurdle of a steep cultural divide.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, relocation remained heavily concentrated in former Soviet republics as citizens adjusted to newly redrawn borders. Over the last three decades, the number of Belarusians living in these traditional strongholds has steadily dropped as that older generation ages. Today, driven by a desire for different lifestyles and globalized tech or business careers, younger emigrants are increasingly establishing roots further abroad in places like Western Europe, Israel, and North America.
